Since their first performance in 2005, a common thread was sewn between Washington D.C. resident Chuck Redd and Portland
jazz luminaries pianist Tony Pacini, bassist Ed Bennett, guitarist Dan Balmer, and drummer Mel Brown.
This “common thread” is what happens when accomplished musicians on opposite ends of the country come together with a
passion and desire to perform together.

They possess a mutual affinity for one another and the music, and with confidence, they know each and every year that a magical tapestry will be sewn with that common thread on the same stage together for one evening. This has become an annual pilgrimage for Redd, and the anticipation and excitement is building as we approach the first downbeat at 7:30pm on May 20th.

Chuck Redd’s career highlights as a drummer has taken him around the globe with such jazz icons as Charlie Byrd,
Monty Alexander, and Ray Brown. As a vibraphonist, he has toured under his own banner, as well as with Mel Torme, Ken Peplowski,
and practically every major jazz festival one can imagine.
